I ripped up the pumpkin plants because they weren't bearing any fruit. I trimmed the butternut squash vines because at this point they are all foliage and not necessarily more veggies. I ripped up about 8 corn stalks that were also not producing anything. It's sad that I am already getting rid of pieces of my garden. Gardening season passes so quickly here in Michigan!
I also had to dig up the remnants of a lilac bush. I grunted and pulled and shoveled it right out of the ground. Then I leveled the dirt and placed my 2nd compost bin over it. The first one is nearly full and the 2nd one was needed today after all the ripping up I did.
Mom came out with me and we harvested eight ears of corn! Yeah! She said it tastes MUCH BETTER than the corn I grew last year. It's amazing how the quality of the soil affects the quality of the food.
Upon closer inspection, I realized that my onion crop didn't work. Again. I also noted that I should be growing about eight eggplants and am only growing two. The pepper plants are also not producing very much. I blame the grossly overgrown yellow bean vines. I think they choked out their veggie neighbors.
You can note that my garden is turning yellow as the oldest part of the vines start to die.
The butternut squash is not yet ready to harvest and my nephew is impatiently waiting!
Tomato jungle.
The acorn squash is at Least 20 feet long. It's actually running out of room to grow.
Eggplant and Pepper. Good eats!
Oh lands, I love this picture. The melons are not ready yet either but they sure do look pretty!
Today's harvest: one lone zucchini, four summer squash, corn, cucumbers, and a tomato.
